Often, a woman’s breasts can change over time with gradual sagging and loss of fullness. These changes can result from aging, pregnancy and breast-feeding, weight change, or heredity. Other women may seek treatment for congenital deformities or asymmetries or for deformities acquired following surgical removal or radiation for cancer treatment. At Frank Barone, M.D. Plastic Surgery, we have several options to meet each patient’s goals for breast enhancement.
Dr. Barone has extensive experience in all areas of breast enhancement and reconstruction. After completing his plastic surgery residency, he completed postgraduate fellowship training in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery at Vanderbilt University, as well as clinical and laboratory research studies in breast implant biomaterials and safety.
Currently, Dr. Barone and nursing supervisor Susie Szaroleta actively participate in a variety of ongoing research studies on breast implant materials for several leading companies and the FDA. See “Breast Implant Advances and Research” for more information.
With this extensive experience and research, our practice is uniquely qualified to provide safe and effective options in all areas of breast enhancement surgery. Our goal is to provide natural and balanced results with uncompromising long-term safety.
Breast Augmentation, or Augmentation Mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure which can enlarge or enhance the shape of the breasts as well as improve contour. This is a very safe and effective procedure with a high patient satisfaction rate when performed on an appropriate candidate by a well-trained and experienced plastic surgeon.
Breast Lift, or Mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to elevate the breast tissue and improve support. A breast lift can rejuvenate the shape of the breasts, restore their youthful contour and position, and can also correct unequal breast position as a result of aging or congenital condition.
Breast Reduction, or Reduction Mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of the breasts, as well as improves support of the breast tissues and skin. Overly large breasts may cause not only physical pain and discomfort but also emotional and self-image problems. Breast reduction surgery is generally considered a reconstructive procedure and may be covered by health insurance when it is performed to relieve medical symptoms. Our practice has extensive experience in surgical techniques which reduce scarring and improve natural breast shape.
Breast Reconstruction is a surgical procedure to rebuild a breast shape after mastectomy or prophylactic mastectomy. The specific type of breast reconstruction procedure can vary, and depends on the woman’s age, body type, and cancer treatment. A surgical plan will be determined by Dr. Barone and other medical professionals that make up your treatment team.
Dr. Barone is a clinical investigator and has been authorized to use a type of breast implant made of “cohesive” silicone gel. This promising modification offers the possibility of a longer-lasting implant with a reduced possibility of leakage. Unlike traditional implants that allow only choices in different volumes or sizes, the cohesive implants have a variety of shapes and dimensions which allow a more natural breast contour and silhouette. These breast implants are provided by the two leading companies in breast surgical materials and safety – The Allergan Corporation and Mentor Corporation.
Staff member Susan Szaroleta, RN, is the research coordinator for all breast implant studies and is nationally recognized for her contributions to these important and exciting advances in breast implant safety.
