Ann Hymel $1,000 Chicken Salad Recipe!!  Spicy ‘n Chilly – A Cool Summer Chicken Salad

Ingredients:

4 cups cooked elbow macaroni, cooled (2 cups uncooked)

12 spears of asparagus, cooked & chopped in 1/2 ” pieces

1/2 cup dried cherries

4 chicken breasts, deboned, uncooked, cubed

seasoning mix (see below) or use a commercial cajun seasoning

Dressing:

1 cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons whole grain mustard

salt &  black pepper to taste

Seasoning mix:

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon onion pepper

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1/4 teaspoon rosemary

1/4 teaspoon thyme

Cook macaroni and asparagus first to let them cool while cooking chicken.  Sprinkle seasoning mix over uncooked, cubed chicken.  Saute chicken in a lightly oiled skillet until golden and slightly crusty.  Toss the macaroni, asparagus, cherries and chicken together with the mayonnaise and mustard in a large bowl until well mixed.  Serve the salad chilled on a bed of lettuce with crusty bread and iced tea.  This salad keeps well covered in the fridge.  It makes a good do-ahead luncheon or light dinner.

Where’s Frank?

Frank and Dr. Barone joined forces to help raise money at the Toledo Children’s Hospital Golf Benefit at Inverness Club.  In memory of event founder Dick Liden.  This event raised significant funds for the Toledo Children’s Hospital Autism Collaborative and Angie’s Place Library.

Dr. Barone got the fun and easy job of riding around in a golf cart with  Dr.Roger Kruse.

While Frank was a trooper standing guard arming the golfers with much needed sunscreen.  “Remember to apply every 2 hours!!”

Dr. Barone had the pleasure of golfing with Randy Oostra, Arthur Hills, and Dr. Roger Kruse.  I think the caddy is giving Dr. Barone a ”do over”.

Randy Oostra President and CEO of ProMedica Health System  and Molly Long Toledo Children’s Hospital Foundation.  Molly was responsible for putting on the Golf Benefit.  Molly and her crew worked so hard and did not miss a detail!!

Amy Hudik and Marsha Brickner gave much needed massages to the golfers! It was a great day and a wonderful way to raise money for the Children’s Hospital library and Autism.  Dr. Barone was honored to be a part of such a worthy charity.

What’s Cooking Wednesday?

This is my no time to cook or shop but I want to eat healthy recipe!!  The 3 ingredients needed to put together are a staple in my house.  I crave this after a tough spin class, bike ride or work out.  It’s full of protein, good for you and best of all it’s yummy!!

All you do…is put a dollop of FAGE (total 0%) all natural nonfat Greek strained yogurt in a pretty bowl, sprinkle your favorite granola/granola cereal (bear naked granola or Kashi crunch honey almond are both good choices), and top with honey.  It is so simple but satisfying!!

FAGE is pronounced Fa-yeh.  It contains live cultures, which is a benefit you want when eating yogurt.  In a cup serving there is 20 grams of protein, 9 grams of sugar, 0 Cholest, 0 fat, and only 120 calories.  Not all stores carry FAGE, but it’s worth looking for.  Kazmaier’s in Perrysburg and Fresh Market both carry it.  Check out their web site for several recipes.  It’s a great alternative to mayo & sour cream in salad dressings.  I have a delicious salad dressing recipe using FAGE and cucumbers, I’ll post it soon.  Hope you enjoy!!  Let us know if you have a request or a family favorite you would like to share.  Happy Wednesday!

My favorite product ever has to be SkinMedica’s TNS Recovery Complex.  After struggling for years with oily skin and cystic acne, I feel this is the one product that really has made a difference.  Now, miracles (at least in skin care) don’t happen overnight, so it is important to make sure you give ANY product a chance – at least 30 days to know if it’s going to work for you.

I began using Recovery Complex after attending a SkinMedica seminar in which the trainer said it was essential for acneic skin since it plays a crucial role in skin tissue growth and repair.  When I started using Recovery Complex, the first thing I noticed was a change in the texture of my skin.  Right away it was smoother and my pores appeared less noticeable.  I did experience additional breakouts in the beginning, but with some coaching from the aestheticians and our rep Stephanie stuck with it and I believe it has paid off dearly!

Today I rarely experience a breakout (knock on wood) and if I do it seems that they heal more quickly than they used to.  I used to have alot of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (dark spots left over after a blemish) and that seems to fade quicker as well.  Maybe its just a fluke but i also felt less oily which seemed like such an accomplishment!  I didn’t have to blot my face by 10 am and I was re-applying makeup less during the day.

I also feel by using TNS Recovery Complex that I’ve taken out a little “insurance policy” on my skin – like I’m doing something in advance that will guarantee the health and appearance of my skin as I age.

Spring Events Recap

This spring was a busy one for the evolv staff, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!  Read on for a recap of some of our favorite events this past season.

Spring Break with the Chicks – those Chicks for Charity sure know how to party!  We gathered together at evolv on April 29, 2010 to raise funds for The Victory Center and had a full house as usual.  Aesthetician Angie Scott demonstrated Permanent Eyeliner and LMT’s Amy Hudik and Marsha Brickner treated some to chair massages as guests arrived.  Cathy Glanz, R.N. was on hand to speak to those interested in laser procedures such as Laser Hair Reduction and Photorejuvenation with IPL.  Angie and Dr. Barone then gave a presentation on Sun Protection and Skin Cancer Prevention – a great topic going into summer.  Special thank you to our Chick hostesses Joyce Rimmelin and Cheryl Fisher for throwing yet another great event.  We’d also like to thank Laila Waggoner from The Victory Center’s Board of Directors for attending and speaking to our guests about TVC.  evolv and Dr. Frank Barone donate 20% of all Chicks product purchases to The Victory Center.

The 2nd Annual Walk in the Shade for Melanoma – well, we could have renamed the event “Walk in the Rain” but we certainly had fun anyways!  Our team that attended included Practice Manager April Fairchild, and Marketing Team Angel Elden and Leah Catanese.  Look for us to do more with this event next year!

VIP Party - imagine if  you could have a day at evolv just for yourself and 3 great friends…sounds like a fantastic time, doesn’t it?  4 lucky ladies got to experience evolv all to themselves on Saturday, May 8, 2010.  Each guest was treated to a Skin Care Consultation with VISIA Analysis, and evolv Urban Facial, a 30 minute massage, and Paraffin treatments for the hands and feet.  To finish off the afternoon, our guests had a makeup lesson as a group, which always ends up being a fun time.  We also provide breakfast and lunch for our VIP’s.  evolv VIP Party packages are available only through charity events – we raffle off the packages to raise money for some of our favorite charities in the area.  This group was from a Diabetes Youth Services event in November.

Where’s Frank?

Frank takes the afternoon to visit “the most popular Buns in the Midwest”.  Frank is SO excited!!

A bit disappointed!!!  “These are not the “buns” he had in mind!!”  But being a good sport, Frank takes time to sign a bun.

Frank was so thrilled to hear Tony Packo’s had made a shirt just for him.  Here he his modeling it, SO PROUD!!  (I didn’t have the heart to tell him it was the other shirt!!!)

Now Frank is really feeling famous, a bun and a shirt.  Yes…he’s thinking he is Best Buds with Jamie Farr!  He’s hoping his bun gets hung next to Zsa Zsa Gabor.  “How cool would that be?!!”

“Lisa loves pickles and hot dogs, doesn’t she?”.  Frank always thinking of his lovely wife, buys her some world famous pickles and peppers and hot dog sauce.  She will be so surprised!!

VISIA Complexion Analysis  “Seeing is Believing”

VISIA is a favorite at evolv due to the information it provides to us as well as to the patient.  It gives us a “canvas” of how to start treatment of the skin.  If you haven’t had a VISIA yet, call and schedule one for yourself.  I was amazed to see my face in a new way, and knowing I can improve my complexion with information I received from my aesthetician.  If you’re wanting to improve your skin this is a great place to start.

VISIA is a complexion analysis syatem that generates quantitative values for skin features that, until now, could only be evaluated subjectively.  The VISIA system utilizes technology that can detect and analyze subsurface conditions of the skin.  This allows our aestheticians and medical medical professionals to customize treatment plans for each individuals skin type.

The analysis is a simple process.  Your aesthetician will help position your face in the booth, and the camera will take a series of photos in quick succession.  The computer will perform a quick analysis of images, comparing your images to a database of other individuals.

Each image in the report displays a certain characteristic: red (vascular) spots, sun damage and brown (melanin) spots, wrinkles, pores, texture, and acne causing bacteria.  The aesthetician will be able to use this data to recommend a treatment plan specifically for you.  Repeat analyses can be done during the course of treatment to measure your program’s effectiveness.
